One Child Policy

In 1979, due to the dramatic growth of population in China, the government enforced a new policy. Today it is known as the One-Child Policy. This policy stated that all couples were limited to have one child birth.
This policy was strictly enforced to couples in the urban areas, but varied from location to location. In the urban cities, if you had more than 1 child, you were labeled upon as "garbage".
In most rural areas it was acceptable to have two children, but under circumstances. This means that the first child had to be a female and or disabled. If this was the case, the second child must of been born 3 or 4 years after the first birth.
If the government of China found out that a couple disobeyed the policy, an extremely high fee was usually fined.
